Your Logo Is More Than Just a Pretty Picture

Let’s talk about what makes a great logo—and why your business deserves one.

Everybody has an opinion about logos.

Your best friend loves one design. Your cousin thinks it needs more color. And somebody who hasn’t designed anything since their high school yearbook suddenly becomes the creative director.

Amazing how that happens, isn’t it?

All jokes aside, choosing a logo is an important decision. It’s often one of the first things people notice about your business, and it can influence how they perceive your brand before they ever speak to you.

After more than 30 years in graphic design, I’ve learned that a great logo isn’t necessarily the fanciest one.

It’s the one that makes sense for your business.

First, Tell Me Your Story

One of my favorite parts of working with clients is learning about their businesses.

What inspired you to start? What makes your company different? Who are your customers? And what do you want people to remember?

These aren’t just questions to fill out a form. The answers help shape the direction of your brand.

Sometimes there’s a meaningful story behind a business name. Other times, there’s a personal connection or an idea the owner has been carrying around for years.

That’s the good stuff!

I enjoy taking those ideas and finding creative ways to bring them together.

Because your logo should represent your business—not somebody else’s idea of what your business should look like.

Looking Good Is Great. Working Well Is Better.

Here’s something worth thinking about.

Your logo might look fantastic on your computer screen, but what happens when you need it on a business card, embroidered on a shirt, or printed across a storefront?

Will it still be recognizable?

A professional logo needs to work in different environments without losing its identity.

That’s why I consider the bigger picture when developing a brand.

And by bigger picture, I don’t mean making the logo bigger. Although, after nearly three decades, I’ve certainly heard that suggestion a time or two!

I mean thinking about where your business is today and where you want it to go.

Good Design Is a Collaboration

I believe the best results happen when clients feel comfortable being part of the creative process.

You know your business. I know design.

Together, we can develop something that represents your vision while considering what will work best for your audience.

I also believe you should understand what you’re getting.

That’s why I present my logo concepts with explanations of the creative direction, symbolism, and reasoning behind the design.

I don’t want you simply saying, “That looks nice.”

I want you to understand why it works.

And if you have questions, ask away! Good communication is part of good customer service.

It’s Your Brand. Let’s Make It Count.

One thing I take seriously is making sure my clients have what they need after a project is completed.

That includes useful file formats and logo variations for different applications.

Once the project is finished and final payment is received, ownership of the completed logo transfers to the client.

After all, it’s your business. You should be able to use your identity with confidence.

My goal isn’t simply to finish a design and move on. I want to build relationships with clients who know they can come back whenever they need creative support.

Great design matters, but so does how you’re treated throughout the process.

Ready to Give Your Brand Some Personality?

Whether you’re launching a new business or refreshing an established one, your logo should reflect what makes you different.

It doesn’t need to be complicated. It doesn’t need every symbol imaginable crammed into one graphic. And it definitely doesn’t need to look like everyone else’s.

It just needs to tell the right story.
