Magazine Design

When I got into the design industry one of my first intern jobs was catalog design for a company called Howie Promotions.

I have worked in the design industry from television to screen print. By far my favorite thing is print design. I love page layout.

In college, it was my least favorite thing, as my professor, Jeff Morris marked up my projects in red for having widows, orphans, and rivers throughout.

Those are technical terms for design errors when it comes to page layout. I got a job at the newspaper and did ad design and page layout. I tell you that environment, though it was fun production work, it was like unlearn everything and get it all in, no matter what.

If I had turned those pages in they would have been bleeding red. It made me appreciate what I learned in school and I could not wait to get back to doing good design. I am currently doing freelance and enjoying designing magazines for one of my clients. It is fun and gives me a reason to read various other magazines to keep up with the latest in magazine design trends. Is it still work if you have fun and enjoy doing it?
