My one spot FoxFace died yesterday. Water parameters looked good. He was about 2.5 years old. It was sudden. No signs of disease or parasite. All the other fish in my 260-gallon saltwater reef tank are doing well. If I find out more I will let you know. He will be missed.
More about Foxface Rabbitfish
The Venomous Foxface is known under several different common names that include Foxface Rabbitfish, Common Foxface, and Foxface Lo. With its spectacular shape and coloration, the Foxface is easily recognized. Often it is misidentified with its close relative S. unimaculatus, but the S. unimaculatus features a big black blotch on its sides. The uniqueness of this fish is that it is equipped with stout venomous spines. The Foxface is a hardy marine species and should be kept in an aquarium where there is plenty of space to swim around, therefore we advise you not to keep this fish in a smaller than 30 gallons tank. Due to the presence of these spines, the Foxface can be housed with other peaceful fishes and even with semi-aggressive ones as no one dares to come closer to the Siganus vulpinus. The Foxface cannot be combined with other rabbit fishes unless they are young, and the older specimens form pairs and do well in an aquarium. The Foxface is known to nip at and even eats some soft and hard coral types, therefore it is not really considered as reef compatible. It thrives well in a temperature range of 72-78 degree Fahrenheit, and with a pH value of 8.1 to 8.4. Sometimes, the Foxface might looks discolored on acclimatizing in a new aquarium and should not be confused as illness. Since the Foxface is capable of inflicting painful venomous stings, it must be therefore handled carefully. The Foxface chiefly feeds on algae and other herbivore food in the wild. Also, the supplemental addition of algae-based pellets and flakes with fresh vegetables are recommended for its continued good health. Breeding is possible in captivity if the Foxface is present in pairs.
